Product Launch: Coffee Table Matchbox in Matte Black

Ever since starting our first home renovation project (and starting this blog) we dreamed of having our own home accessory line. We’ve always found it difficult finding unique products that fit our style. Products that were different, modern, and moody.

Something a little harder to find.

Today, in collaboration with our friends at Exclusive, we’re launching the FIRST piece in our home accessory line:

Not Your Average Matchbox

We’ve been working on developing this all black box of matches with our friends at Exclusive since the start of 2021. When we decided to design a matchbox we wanted something that felt more like a coffee table book than a matchbook. Something larger, more substantial, and something that felt like an experience every time it was opened.

This is not something you pull out just to light a candle and then stuff away in a drawer for no one to see. It’s a piece of art for your coffee table or your shelf. It’s a piece to style with, a piece to display next to your collection of candles, and a piece that sparks joy whenever it’s opened.

As you open the magnetic lid of the box, the match tray levitates to reveal a case of 100 all black matches. Striker areas on two sides, tone on tone BC Logos on the others. Black UV gloss text on the matte black box reads “box of matches.” Obvious, but also a little quirky, kind of like us.

Back when I was in graphic design school, I would love dreaming up new packaging ideas to compliment designs. I’d print them off and assemble them using thin card stock and double sided tape. To be able to create a product with fun, non-disposable packaging is really special for me, as it harks back to those days from design school.

And don’t worry, the matchbox comes with 100 extra all black matches too so you can keep reusing the box.
