Guide: Places we stayed during our Newfoundland Photography Trip

Cross Newfoundland Road Trip Accommodations

Back in May we took on a two week photography road trip across the island of Newfoundland, Canada to produce a short fim called “MAUZY”. This is a comprehensive list of all the places we stayed during our trip! This post is not sponsored or endorsed by Air BnB or anyone we stayed with, we just thought it might be helpful for those traveling looking for a nice spot to stay in these regions!

Accomodations

AVALON

Small Seaside Cottage in Dildo Cove

We rented this tiny house as a home base in Dildo. We only stayed for one night but the place made for a great spot to rest our heads. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a small kitchen, a bit tight for more than two people but it worked out great for us for a short stay. While we were there we got fish and chips at the Dildo Brewing Co. & Museum, HIGHLY recommend! Hands down the best fish and chips of the trip!

Eastern

Art Bonavista Studio Oceanfront Retreat

We booked this place with no reviews and were pleasantly surprised by this home! The host was just putting the finishing touches on the outdoor space and building out the bottom floor art gallery but the interior was complete. Another great home base, stunning views right on the ocean, and this spot wins best sleep of the trip.

Central

Home in the Harbour

During our trip we finally ticked “visit Fogo Island” off our bucket list. We chose “Home On The Harbour” for it’s proximity to the Fogo Island Inn as well as it’s ocean views! While we did’t get a chance to visit the Inn, we did see all 4 architecturally designed art studios on the island, one of which is a short 15 minute walk from this Air Bnb! We visit these in the film if you want to see what they look like. During our stay we ate at Bang Belly and had cod and corn chowder, salad, and bread. That really hit the spot after a day of taking photos in the cold weather.

Western

The Lighthouse Keepers Suite

We made a few stops in the Western region of the island. The first was in Gros Morne National Park where we wanted to hike the Tablelands; a plateau featuring the earths mantel where vegetation doesn’t grow. We stayed in The Lighthouse Keepers Suite right on Bonne Bay. While the bottom half of this suite was freezing since we visited during the off season (host mentioned adding a heater), the upper floor was really cosy to sleep in and made for a fun stay with amazing views! Just a heads up this spot is smaller than it looks in the photos and the ladder is VERY steep, if you have trouble with heights of climbing perhaps check out one of their other rooms.

A Wave From It All

After Gros Morne we headed half way up the Northern Peninsula to Port Saunders so we could visit Port Aux Choix and some of the other old villages up the coast. Unfortunately the weather had other plans for us. Heavy wind, rain, and cold temperatures forced us to hunker down inside. This suite was a great spot to do just that! The place was cozy and warm, had a view of the ocean, and Wifi + TV so we could watch movies while we waited for the weather to pass. I should mention this suite is also wheelchair accessible!

The Hew & Draw Hotel

WHAT A SPOT! My god, this was such a gem and great way to end the trip. This hotel was STUNNING! Beautifully decorated, amazing staff, really great food, but the highlight for me was booking a private hot tub outside to soak in at sunset after a long two weeks of shooting photos. This hotel rivals any big city boutique hotel, and quite frankly it could be one of the nicest i’ve stayed in!

We had positive experiences with all of our accommodations on this trip and would stay at any of these spots again! Check out MAUZY here, and if you are curious what this entire trip looked like behind the scenes, check out our vlog!
