At Home Coffee Station Tour

During our last few months in Vancouver I started getting into coffee.  We found some lovely coffee shops in Buffalo but I really wanted to make good coffee at home. Our apartment had a large living space, but the kitchen counter space was sort of lacking. The coffee station started out in the kitchen, but then grew so large I had to make a spot for it on an extra desk in the living room. I decided to fine tune the space. You can see the full makeover process on the vlog:

I get a lot of questions about my espresso machine; if I like it, and would I recommend it. Over the last few years I have gotten into coffee, but I haven't become an expert by any means. I like drinking coffee, I like making coffee, but i’m more interested in the design of the mug i’m drinking out of VS the finer details of coffee making. I like this machine because it makes it pretty easy to make a decent latte without needing too much knowledge. It takes a bit of time to set up and dial in, but once you figure that out i't’s easy going. We use the steamer a lot for lattes, matcha, chai, and hot chocolates since Chris doesn't like coffee. For us, it was definitely worth it and I would 100% recommend it.

Working Through Coffee Station Layouts

As I said earlier, I changed my coffee station around quite a bit as my collection grew. It started in the kitchen but took up too much counter space. After a few months I moved it to a desk in the living room near the window.

That worked for a little while until I decided to change rob my black book shelf from the living room for the office, leaving me with an empty wall. I had to completely rethink how I was going to make this work. I shopped the house and decided to use the Ikea FJÄLLBO unit that was previously in my office, and landed on the final coffee station in our last apartment.

I found the grey shelf at Target which I mounted high enough on the wall that I wouldn’t hit my head while I was using the Kettle. I kept the espresso machine on top of the shelf because it’s the most used along with the kettle for making tea. The shelf below stored the Chemex, scale, and our grinder. A small trey holds espresso cups and a container full of tea bags from Newfoundland.

I go through phases with coffee, I don’t drink the same thing all year round. Currently been digging an Americano with cream and sugar, or a Cafe Mocha with a little dusting of cocoa powder on top. Summer time it’s usually iced vanilla lattes or iced chai lattes. Chris go-to is usually a hot chai latte but we also both love a lavender London Fog which contains steamed milk, lavender syrup, and an earl grey tea bag. Such a cozy winter evening beverage.

The Gus Modern Elk chair was such a perfect little spot to enjoy a beverage and work, a great change in scenery from the office.

Now that we’re in the new house and planning for a full ass kitchen renovation, i’ve been dreaming up my ideal coffee nook to house all of this stuff. I am pumped to see that come together hopefully later this year and share an updated post with you!
